2024 Louis Parsons III Memorial Photo Contest
Judges: Terry Plowman, Publisher of Delaware Beach Life; John Sisson, President of the Art League of Ocean City; Zachary Garmoe, Environmental Scientist and Photographer.
Sponsor: Jeff Williams is the former publisher of Oceana Magazine and was a good friend of Lou's. They spent many fun-filled times in Ocean City and Paris. Jeff always admired Lou's photographic talents and donated the prize money with his corporate sponsor, Associa, for this inaugural contest.
Ocean City Beach (Grand Prize Winner): "A Sunrise to Remember" by Cody Young. Photo Description: My first sunrise in Ocean City, right where the dunes start. It made a special day even greater and was an amazing start to a beautiful, awesome day. I love how you can see the waves coming in and the sun making its way out of the clouds. Judge's Notes: This breathtaking image portrays the natural beauty that attracts us to Ocean City. The movement of wave and surf is perfectly captured. The sun bursts in an explosion of color, while a single beam plays gently across line and texture, drawing us into the composition. Everything works: evoking feelings of peace, hope, and renewal that come with a new dawn.
Ocean City Boardwalk: "Smiles at Trimpers" by Megan Gsvind. Photo Description: Our three year old daughter Hadley loves the same Trimper's rides once enjoyed by her parents and grandparents. Judge's Notes: This image is a charming capture of pure, simple joy of childhood. Who does not remember the feeling of an iconic merry-go-round, and what Ocean City amusement park is more iconic than Trimper's? Though this photograph would have still been fun in color, the photographer's choice to show this moment in black-and-white makes it a timeless classic.
Bay Sunsets: "Sunset Over Midtown" by Jason Dawson. Photo Description: Sunset behind the city. Judge's Notes: Many landscape photos, especially those taken near sunrise or sunset, often have a tendency to highlight the background - mountains, clouds, or other distant features. In contrast, Sunset Over Midtown focuses on the water in front of the camera and the reflection of the lingering sunset on the ocean. This image feels like quintessential Maryland sunset swim, where you stay in the water well past the departure of the sun as the sky slowly fades from gold to blue.
People's Choice Winner: "Sea Foam" by George Leukel. Description: After A Storm. Sea Foam Washed Up On The Beach. Number of Votes: 550
